PULL-A-PART SUPPORTS SOAPBOX DERBY BENEFITTING DECATUR STUDENT CENTER

September 17, 2021

Pull-A-Part will once again sponsor the Pit Crew at the 10th Annual Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby in Decatur, GA, on October 16, 2021. The family-friendly race has grown from a small neighborhood gathering to become an annual tradition that has raised over $180,000 for local charities, all focused on improving the lives of children throughout Decatur and the surrounding region.

Racers of all ages build their own cars throughout the year with their families and show off their creative and driving skills–on the race course and the pre-race Pit Row, sponsored by Pull-A-Part. The annual event is organized by neighborhood volunteers and held on a small street located six miles north of Pull-A-Part Atlanta South.

The beneficiary for the 2021 Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby is the Decatur Student Center, an organization that is committed to provide meaningful support that allows all students to flourish in school and in life. The Decatur Student Center provides wrap-around services beyond the scope of the school counseling program. The DSC began at the high school but has become a K-12 initiative to address the needs of students, pre-K through 12th. Students can receive individual and small group counseling for social-emotional concerns, as well as support for academics and post-secondary planning.

Although the 2020 race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization put together a virtual “Ramp to Success” program which helped benefit the Decatur Education Foundation and the Family Support Partnership.

Pull-A-Part sponsored this initiative, as well as races in 2018 and 2019. Previous local beneficiaries of the Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby have included Global Village Project (GVP), an innovative school for refugee young women, Decatur Education Foundation’s (DEF) “Lighten the Load” initiative, City Schools of Decatur Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), Reading is Essential for All People (REAP), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving reading proficiency in public school students through teacher training and enrichment, and other organizations focused on children’s needs in the community.

All funds collected through race registration, donations, and the race day bake sale are directed to the beneficiary through the Madison Ave Community Fund, a Georgia 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
